The need for
data management and standardization in the geoscience community
led to the establishment of two main CGKN working groups, both of
which have members representing the federal, provincial and territorial
government agencies. The cooperation of these agencies facilitates
the management, exchange and dissemination of Canada's geoscience
information.
CGKN
Data Catalogue Working Group
The data catalogue working group was established to coordinate the
development of comprehensive metadata catalogues that are searchable
through the Internet. This will be accomplished by establishing
a metadata
profile based in an International standard, comprehensive metadata
catalogues at each agency and a single Internet
search engine for the suite of catalogues.

Data Infrastructure Working Group
The data infrastructure working group was established to develop
standards, data models and related tools for geoscience data. This
